Medini mall

Numerous restaurants and shops outside Legoland Malaysia.

At a chicken rice/noodles restaurant :
curry noodle
special milk tea (3 layered)
Noodles and a side dish of kueh pie tee
Colorful dessert

Candy we don't see back home :
Angry bird candy that come in little straws. You have to use your teeth to pry the candy out. A useful kit for parents as this is one little candy you can 'stretch' and have the kids spend a long time on.

Tim Ho Wan

Finally, a chance to try dim sum at this famous restaurant known for its infamous queue.

My fav : beefballs, spinach/prawn dumplings and the malai cake

The pork liver fan cheong was a disappointment despite it being touted as the top 4 sellers. The liver did not taste very fresh.

Chicken soup with white fungus, carrots and button mushroom

Tiramisu

Found this recipe that doesn't use raw eggs (though the fingers do contain eggs)

Tried and tested! Easy, and really yummy.

Tripled the alcohol ingredient though. Used dark rum.

While I was at it, I did a search online for cheaper options to mascarporne cheese. There are recipes for homemade ones and I also found some wholesale options.

Check out the price difference :

Kitchen Capers, 1 Litre m cheese costs $9.80

Cold storage, 1 Litre of the same brand costs $15.95

Batam - what to see and do

Keeping this post from Ladyironchef so I know what to do in Batam next time.

http://www.ladyironchef.com/2011/07/things-to-do-batam-indonesia-getaway/

Nagoya Hills - a&w restaurant, massage, kueh lapis, shopping.

Harbour bay area - seafood restaurants

Mall next to Swiss-belhotel Harbour Bay - indoor playground for kids, breadtalk, JCo doughnuts, OGmarket supermart (fishball crackers, indo mi). And a BFC (Batam Fried Chicken).

Kueh Lapis

Yummy kueh lapis from Batam.
A huge block goes for 165,000 rupiah. That's about $8?!
