Udon

Homecooked dinner with instant udon, and chicken stew with russet potatoes, onions and carrots cooked in sweet dark soya sauce thickened with barley grains. The soya sauce's the type used for hainanese chicken rice i.e. the thick sweet type.

The soup's made with part frozen soup stock from earlier in the week, packaged chicken stock, fresh carrots, corn, some barley grains, chicken pieces and dried japanese wakame (seaweed).

Doughnuts

Donuts someone got us from Malaysia. These became our breakfast.

Dry laksa (2)

Tried my hand at dry laksa today. For a potluck. Think I added a tad too much laksa leaves. I still prefer the laksa paste from woh hup.

I added milk for more moisture and taste.

Smoothie home delivery

Yummy flavours - mango, durian
and these are great ideas for potlucks or gatherings.

And they do deliveries, though I'm not sure if they cover all areas.

I heard you can call for orders and payment can be made via bank transfer.

Lost and found

Ollie sent me this picture. A find!

It's where we can have our next cup of Papa Palheta coffee. At Millenia Walk.
(aside from Chye Seng Huat Hardware where Papa Palheta will be based at).

I digress ...

But these are photos of a nice whimsical children's bookstore called Woods in the Books ( in Millenia Walk ) that Ollie sent me. There are wall murals of book characters.

OKB

Stands for one kampong bahru, and its

A new cafe to try.

This blog posting gives a detailed rundown including location and parking options http://foodmakespeoplehappy.blogspot.sg/2012/09/new-okb.html?m=1

Grin Affair

Chocolate cake in a bottle from Grin Affair.

A last sojourn to rustic coffee charm

Sad to see this place go.

Papa Palheta says goodbye to its Hooper Road premise today.

(the chocolate cake in a bottle was separately bought from Grin Affair)

Halloween treats

A schoolhouse turned spookhouse, all for the fun of Halloween.

Jam fingers, ketchup drizzled over sausages, spaghetti bolognese, theme cupcakes, special Halloween candies, ribena blackcurrent cordial drink, Oreo with icing and chocolate drop, 'mouldy' eggs, and last of all, a self-decorated cupcake by the kiddo.

Kampong Glam

A sojourn into the Kampong Glam area, the seat of Malay heritage and its early days commerce and trade. An enriching visit to the newly refurbished Malay Heritage Centre, and the surrounding area.

Lunch at Rumah Makan Minang. Hot and spicy. Since we were in a large party, we had a heavy meal complete with 12 items:
Rice
Ikan Assam pedas
Begedil
Sayur lodeh
Korma (yellow coconut curry with grilled chicken)
Sambal goreng
Grilled Chicken with chili Sauce
Sotong cooked in its ink and spice
Tauhu telor
Dessert of Pulut hitam
Bandung / lime juice
Teh tarik / kopi Tarik

Cakes from the Rich and Good Cake Shop, popular not for its service, but its cakes that keep customers coming.
