Closed - Not so German fare at a German pub
There's the usual sausages, saaurkrat, mustard sauce, German potatoes with bacon and cheese.
Then there's escargot and the out of place but delicious chinese style bee hoon with canned pork knuckles. Yummy nonetheless. They serve fried rice too.
Brauhuas pub, basement of United Square
$$
about $18 per pax

Kampong Glam revisited
A revisit to the Malay Heritage Centre yesterday. And a must-buy from the Rich and Good cakeshop. This time it's chocolate and pandan flavours.
There's a children museum too in the area, with toys from yester year.

Homestyle pasta with pesto
Our favorite homestyle pasta.
It's a stir-through pasta so the work lies more in the boiling, cutting, chopping and shredding.
Serves 4.
Fusili pasta, 1 pack
Pesto sauce, 4 tablespoons
Grilled spring chicken, deboned and torn into chunks
Minced garlic and onion, with lemon juice
Broccoli cut up and boiled
Cherry tomatoes, halved
1 small cup of plain yogurt
2 tablespoons of low fat mayonnaise
Dill
The trick is to stir through everything when the pasta's hot and just out from the water.
Serve warm or cold.
With ground black pepper, crushed walnuts and shaved Parmesan cheese.

87th birthday
The birthday girl's 87, and in true style arrived late for the party. The family's grown, from a table and a half, to three!
At Gim Tim. The place we know as Mooi Chin Palace, harking to childhood days. A return to the 'hood where we grew up.

ABC juice
apple-beetroot-carrot juice.
http://www.noobcook.com/abc-juice-apple-beetroot-carrot/
Known properties & benefits of beetroots (aka beets)
Info from Wiki & LoveBeetroot.co.uk
- Lowers blood pressure (therefore avoid/consume in moderation if you are anemic)
- Relaxes the mind (due to the substance betaine) and is used to treat depression. It also contains trytophan which contributes to a sense of well being.
The unique deep red/magenta hue of beetroot is due to the substance known as betanin, which is used industrially as a red food colourant – e.g. to improve the colour of tomato paste, sauces, jams and ice cream. To me, the beetroot looks as if it is “bleeding” when you cut into it, so do be careful about red stains. Betacyanin in beetroot may cause pink “side effects” in some people who are unable to break it down, however do not be alarmed if that happens.
